What is the Ocean City Park and Ride?
The Park and Ride is a large lot in West Ocean City, on Route 50 just before the bridge, where visitors park once and take a bus onto the island. It exists so that Boardwalk trips, event days, and peak weekends do not require hunting for a downtown space. A single fee typically covers parking and the bus connection for the vehicle's occupants, and it is the standard recommendation for families driving in for the day rather than staying overnight.

When it is clearly the right call
Day trips and fireworks nights. Festival weekends, and any evening when the Inlet lot is likely to fill. It removes the two worst parts of a Boardwalk visit: circling for a space and paying by the hour while your group is still eating. It also removes the temptation to drive between districts, which is where most Ocean City traffic frustration comes from.
What you give up by parking on the mainland
Flexibility. You leave when the bus runs, not when you decide, and a tired child at the end of a long night still has a bus ride ahead. Anyone carrying beach gear, coolers, or chairs will find the transfer awkward. If the plan involves a lot of equipment or an unpredictable departure time, driving and paying for parking is the calmer option.
How it fits a car-free strategy
It pairs with the Beach Bus. Together they make a genuinely car-free island day possible. Park on the mainland, ride in, use the bus or the Boardwalk tram to move north and south, and drive again only when leaving. Confirm current fares, hours, or seasonal operation with the Town before you rely on a late return.
