What counts as uptown Ocean City?

Uptown Ocean City, also called North Ocean City, is the northern end of the island. It runs roughly from 90th Street to the Delaware state line at 146th Street. It holds the widest and least crowded beaches in town, Northside Park, a concentration of bayside dining, and residential blocks that stay quiet after dark. Visitors choose uptown when the beach and the bay matter more than the Boardwalk, and when a short drive to the amusements is an acceptable trade for space.

The beach is the reason

Beach width improves as you move north. So does the crowd density. On a July Saturday, an uptown street end can feel like a different town from the Inlet. Street-end access points come with the usual constraints, so the practical question is how far you want to carry chairs from a parked car, not whether you will find room on the sand.

Northside Park as the anchor

Northside Park is the anchor up here. It sits on the bay around 125th Street with fields, paths, playgrounds, and piers, and it carries most of the town's free seasonal programming, from summer movies and concerts to the Winterfest of Lights display. For families staying uptown, the park usually replaces the Boardwalk as the default evening plan.

Crossing the state line

The island keeps going. At 146th Street it crosses into Fenwick Island, Delaware. That state sets its own rules on everything from beach regulations to sales tax. Uptown visitors often drive north for outlet shopping or dinner without registering that they have left Maryland. Verify anything rule-dependent, such as dog access or alcohol policy, against the correct jurisdiction.
