What do bayside and oceanside mean?
Bayside and oceanside describe which side of Coastal Highway an Ocean City address sits on. Oceanside means east, toward the Atlantic, the beach, and the Boardwalk. Bayside means west, toward Isle of Wight Bay, the marinas, and the sunset. Locals give directions as a street number plus one of these two words, and the distinction decides your walk to the beach, your view, your parking, and whether you cross a busy multi-lane highway carrying chairs and children.

What the distinction costs you
Oceanside costs more. A rental there usually means a short walk to the sand and a higher nightly price. A bayside rental usually means a highway crossing, a sunset view, and better value. Neither is wrong, but the crossing is the part people underestimate: with beach gear and small children, one signalized crossing per day is manageable and three is not.
How your side of the highway changes dinner
Waterfront dining is bayside. That is where the sunset and the marinas are. Oceanside dining is mostly Boardwalk food and street-level restaurants without a water view. A group that wants a sunset table is choosing bayside whether or not it uses the word.

Use the format back at them. When a local says "67th Street bayside," that is a complete address. Repeat the format back when you ask questions and you will get faster, more accurate answers than by naming a business. It also helps when reading rental listings, where "oceanblock" often means oceanside but not oceanfront.
