When is peak season in Ocean City?
Peak season in Ocean City runs roughly from mid-June, when schools release, through Labor Day weekend. Every ride, restaurant, rental operator, and lifeguard stand is running, the events calendar is full, and the Boardwalk operates at full intensity every night. It is also the most expensive time to stay, the hardest time to park, and the only time when a spontaneous dinner reservation is genuinely unlikely. Nearly every constraint discussed elsewhere on this site is a peak-season constraint.

What you get for the crowds
Full operation is the trade. Guarded beaches all day, the tram running the Boardwalk, watersports operators on the bay, free concerts and movies on the beach, and rides open late. Families with school-age children usually have no alternative, and the town is designed around exactly this audience for exactly these ten weeks.
The habits that make it work
Start early and stop early. Beach by nine, off the sand by mid-afternoon, dinner before six or after eight, Boardwalk on foot or by bus. Book the few things that genuinely require booking and leave the rest loose. Groups that try to run a peak-season day on an off-season schedule spend most of it in traffic and lines.
When to consider the alternative
Check the school calendar first. If nobody is tied to one, the first two weeks of June and the two weeks after Labor Day deliver warm water, open businesses, and a fraction of the congestion. That shoulder window is the single best-value trade in Ocean City for adults, couples, and families with pre-school children.
