When can you bike on the Boardwalk?
Boardwalk bike hours are the posted early-morning window during which bicycles are permitted on the Ocean City Boardwalk in season. Outside that window, riding is prohibited and enforced, because the boards fill with pedestrians, strollers, and the tram. The window and the season it applies to are set by town ordinance and posted at Boardwalk entrances, so confirm the current hours locally rather than assuming last year's cutoff still holds.

Why the ride is worth the alarm clock
The early ride is worth it. Cool air, an empty promenade, the ocean on one side, and the amusement piers standing quiet. Rental shops open early for exactly this reason, offering everything from single bikes to surreys that hold a whole family.
What is allowed and what is not
Not everything with wheels counts. Rules separate bicycles, surreys, and motorized devices, and electric bikes and scooters are treated differently from ordinary bicycles. Sidewalk and street riding elsewhere in town has its own rules. Check current town regulations before renting anything with a motor.
After the morning cutoff
Once bike hours end, walk it. Riders who push it get stopped, and the tram plus a dense crowd makes it genuinely unsafe. For daytime riding, the numbered side streets and the bayside neighborhoods are calmer than either the Boardwalk or Coastal Highway.
